Crunchy Dehydrated Chickpeas

Looking for a healthy filling snack with a bit of crunch? Chickpeas are a good source of protein and fibre and keep your appetite under control. Don’t go looking for them at the supermarket, it is much cheaper to make your own and takes only a couple of minutes to get them ready and into a dehydrator (but they can be done in an oven too – see notes). Most of the store-bought varieties are made with unhealthy oils and have artificial flavours and preservatives added in. They are a great addition to the lunchbox or added into salads.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 can chickpeas 400g *(see notes)
  • 1 teaspoon himalayan salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground paprika

METHOD:

  1. Drain and rinse chickpeas and place in a small bowl.
  2. Mix in salt and spices.
  3. Layer on dehydrator sheet and dehydrate at 70 degrees 6-7 hours.
  4. Allow chickpeas to totally cool and store in a glass jar.

NOTES:
* When looking for chickpeas make sure to check the ingredient list on the back to make sure there’s been nothing else added.
** Try substituting the spices for a different flavour.
*** Recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.
**** For oven method – preheat the oven to 180 degrees and cook for 35-40 minutes until crispy, tossing the chickpeas every 10 minutes to avoid burning.
