Homemade Bath Salts

With Christmas coming up, now is the time to get ahead of making some homemade gifts. Making your own bath salts is simple and avoids the artificial scents that are normally added in store bought bath salts. Pick up some cute mason jars and you have yourself some easy personalised gifts, made in no time at all. Don’t forget to make some for yourself too!!

This recipe has Epsom salts (that treat issues such as circulatory health, blood pressure, and nerve function), Himalayan salts (relaxes and calms along with helping with helping some skin conditions) and bicarbonate soda (more commonly used for skin conditions). I choose to make my bath salts with a combination of these ingredients as it covers a wide variety of conditions.

As toxins are drawn out of the body while having salt baths, it is important to have a rinse off after, so these toxins and salts aren’t left on your skin.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • ½ cup fine Himalayan salt/sea salt
  • ¼ cup bicarbonate soda
  • 20 drops essential oil (I use 15 drops lavender and 5 drops orange) * see notes

METHOD:

  1. In a glass bowl pour in all ingredients and stir together until oils have been mixed well into salts.
  2. Decant into jars.
  3. Store in a cool, dry location.

NOTES:

* Use your favourite essential oils. Try different combinations and see what works best for you.
** All ingredients can be purchased from a supermarket or health food store.
