Green Smoothie

We like to wake up to a green smoothie every morning, I like to know we are starting the day the best we can.  They are filling, full of goodness and easy to take with you if you’re running late.  I like to prepare ours the night before so no preparation needs to be done in the morning.  If you are really time poor during the week, you can prepare packs for the week in one go and freeze them so it is one less thing to worry about during the busy weekdays.  There are a lot of green smoothie recipes out there, this is what we like put in our smoothie.

Serves 3-4

  • 2 1/2 stalks of celery
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber
  • 1/2 cm fresh ginger
  • 1/2 lemon (peel removed)
  • 1 lime (peel removed)
  • 2 large red apples (quartered and skin left on – see notes)
  • large handful of baby spinach leaves
  • 1 banana
  • 3/4 cup filtered water
  • 3/4 cup of ice
  1. Chop all ingredients into pieces that will fit easily into your blender – I use a Thermomix, but any blender will work
  2. Place into containers or packets for freezing – if needed
  3. Then It’s as easy as putting all ingredients into a blender and blending until a smooth consistency and serving

Notes:  I like to use organic produce whenever it is available.  If you are unable to source organic apples, please remove the core as the seeds contain a high amount of pesticides and sprays used on the fruit.
